The incredible story of Messi and his wife Antonella

Romance between the star and his wife began in Rosário, the player’s hometown

Story of Messi and his wife Antonella

The love story of Lionel Messi and Antonella Roccuzzo is worthy of a novel. The two met in childhood, when they lived on the banks of the Paraná River in Rosário , the largest city in the province of Santa Fé , in the central region of Argentina and it was just a promise.

Messi was nine and Antonella eight.

Who introduced them was Lucas Scagila , who was Messi’s teammate in the youth team at Newell’s Old Boys , a club from the city, and who at the same time is the cousin of Antonella Roccuzzo .

Antonella is the daughter of José and Patrícia, who owned a supermarket in their hometown of Rosário. The establishment was often frequented by the parents of the Argentine star. According to close friends, Messi was already in love with Antonella at this time.

Love letters

At that time, Messi was already writing love letters to Antonella. Her relatives revealed to the Argentine press that in the letters he assured her that she would be his girlfriend in the future.

In 2000, aged just 13, he moved to Barcelona and the couple became estranged.

She, in turn, stayed in Argentina and, for six years, practiced Olympic gymnastics for the Gimnasia y Esgrima club , although she did not dedicate herself to the modality, preferring to continue her studies.

At the time, she had a relationship with a neighbor that lasted three years.

At the age of 17, when he was already established at Barcelona and part of the first team, a friend of Antonella’s passed away. Messi made a lightning trip to Rosario. Tragedy brought them together and made their relationship go into gear.

Then Messi returned to Spain and Antonella remained in Argentina to continue her studies at the National University of Rosario. She studied Dentistry and then Social Communication.

Distance relationship

The couple maintained a long-distance relationship between 2007 and 2009, when he said in an interview, aged 21: “Yes, I have a girlfriend and she is in Argentina. The truth is that I am fine and calm.”

Ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Antonella traveled to Barcelona for the first time to settle into Lionel Messi’s home in Castelldefels, in one of Barcelona’s most exclusive neighborhoods.

Over time, the two became a family, and here are the other members, their three children, Thiago, Mateo and Ciro, born in 2012, 2015 and 2018 respectively.

They were married in Rosario, on June 30, 2017. The party, which had 260 guests, including several players from the Argentina National Team, such as Sergio Agüero, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Ángel Di María, was the subject of several newspapers around the world.
