Ancelotti laments Real Madrid’s poor start: “The team lacks balance”
The ‘merengues’ coach explains that he has not yet managed to find the defensive and offensive stability that won him titles last season
Despite the official start of the season having begun with a victory in the European Super Cup final , Real Madrid have already accumulated two draws in three games in La Liga , currently being four points behind Barcelona , who only know how to win.
Contrary to what he has shown in recent press conferences, Carlo Ancelotti has already shown signs of concern, after this 1-1 draw at Las Palmas , which once again saw Kylian Mbappé fail to score a goal in the Spanish league.
“The team is not balanced. There was a lack of circulation and ball recovery, as happened in Mallorca . We will look for and find a solution quickly. It is difficult for us to be as solid as last season. We must not look for excuses, because the schedule is tight. I have to be clearer in my strategy to give clarity to the players. It is costing us more than we could have imagined. The game is slow and there is no mobility. The ball reaches the forwards when the opposition defence is closed. The team is not compact,” he explained in a press conference, placing the blame on himself and not on the players.
“I have to find the solution, not the players. The responsibility lies with the coach to ensure the team plays well and is solid again. With the midfield we are not compact and there is a lot of distance between the lines. We have to be more solid and win the ball back,” he added.
Finally, the Italian coach revealed that no more last-minute signings will be made and dismissed any mentality issues among the players, after so many titles in recent years: «That’s not the problem. The players train well and I don’t see a lack of character or attitude. The squad is complete.»
