Pedri admits he was ‘scared’ by Kroos’ injury
The midfielder revealed to the Spanish newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’ his main objectives for the season and how winning Euro 2024 impacted him
Pedri admitted this Thursday that he was “scared” by the injury caused by Toni Kroos, in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 between Spain and Germany.
“When I felt the pain in my knee, I was scared because I saw what happened to Gavi. I’ve had several injuries that were very tough, but thank God I was lucky with this one. It was a small injury compared to what could have happened,” he said in an interview with Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo .
Back on the pitch, the 21-year-old admits that one of his goals for the season is… not to get injured: «My main goal is to not get injured. That’s all I ask for this season. I also want to contribute to the team, as I believe we have strengthened ourselves well. And when it comes to the national team, I will give my best.»
“I feel very good, very good indeed. I had already said before Euro 2024 that I had found my rhythm. I am happy with the work I am doing and that is reflected on the pitch. I have never felt so motivated before,” he said.
In the interview, the midfielder was also asked about Spain’s victory at Euro 2024, revealing that it gave him “a lot of confidence”.
“We are still the same person, but it is true that this gives us a lot of confidence. There are a lot of players who retire and fail to win and I think that is a source of pride. We are also the team that has the most pride and that is felt in Spain,” he continued.
After winning Euro 2024, Pedri guarantees that the Spanish team continues to seek new achievements and, for now, is focused on the Nations League, a competition in which they face Serbia this Thursday – away from home, at 7:45 pm – and Switzerland, on Sunday, at the same time.
“They are both tough opponents. Playing away from home can be a challenge, but we are ready to give our best. Our focus is on the game against Serbia, where we will try to secure the three points and start on the right foot,” he assured.
