Foden was born on 28 May 2000 to Claire Foden and Phil Foden Snr in the metropolitan borough of Stockport, United Kingdom.

In May 2017, Foden scored in the final of the 2017 UEFA European Under-17 Championship as the England U-17 team suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat to Spain . In October of the same year, Foden gained widespread press attention after scoring two goals in the final of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup , also against Spain, as England won the competition. He was voted the best player of the tournament. He won the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Ball award , where he also gained widespread press attention and significant media coverage.
On 27 May 2019, Foden was included in England’s 23-man squad for the 2019 European Under-21 Championship , and scored a stunning goal – his first for the U21s – in a 2–1 defeat to France in Cesena .
Manchester City debut
He made his senior debut on 21 November 2017, as a substitute in a 1–0 win over Feyenoord , becoming the fourth youngest English player to play in the UEFA Champions League , aged 17 years and 177 days.
Under the command of multiple champion Pep Guardiola , Phil had a very successful spell at the English club. The player, who began his career in midfield, was able to share the field at the Etihad Stadium for the first time in the Premier League in December 2017. In the match, the Englishman replaced İlkay Gündoğan in the 4-1 win over Tottenham.
In the English Championship, the player managed to participate in the most hegemonic moment in the history of the blue club from Manchester. In his first five seasons, Foden secured five League trophies, with his outstanding performance during the 2022–23 season standing out , as he managed to achieve his best mark since his debut in the competition: 11 goals.
Among his key games in the competition, Phil was particularly notable when he managed to score his first hat-trick in the Premier League. Playing in the FA Cup , the Englishman did not take long to win his first title. Although he did not win the Cup in the 2017–18 season, he was able to actively participate in the glorious moment in the following season. Scoring a goal on his debut, and two more goals against Newport County in the 5th Round, Phil was on the field in the first three matches of City that would be crowned champion against Watford 6–0 in the final. However, he did not participate in the final three games at the manager’s option.
The team then went on to be eliminated in the semi-finals three times in a row before finally being able to play in the final again . In the 2022–23 season, when City were actively competing for the Triple Crown, the Citizens reached the Final against Manchester United, who were led by Erik ten Hag . Phil played in the final moments of the match and saw his club secure a 2–1 triumph.
In the English League Cup , the athlete reached the mark of four trophies in his first five years. Despite this, he did not score any goals, he provided an assist for Sergio Agüero to open the scoring in the decision against Aston Villa in 2020. The game ended 2-1 and City secured yet another trophy.
In the Champions League , the player suffered several eliminations with the team. However, after the final lost to Chelsea in 2020, Manchester City began to appear, season after season, among the top four and Phil was able, for the first time in his career, to be crowned Continental Champion in the 2022–23 season .
In 2024, after a great English Championship season, where Phil Foden scored 19 goals in 35 appearances, Phil Foden was voted the best player of the 2023-24 Premier League season .
