Biography of Douglas Luiz
Douglas Luiz was born in Rio de Janeiro and joined Vasco da Gama’s youth teams in 2013, at the age of 14, after passing a series of tests carried out in Itaguaí. In July 2016, he was promoted to the first team by coach Jorginho due to Marcelo Mattos’ injury.
Douglas Luiz made his first-team debut on 27 August 2016, coming on as a second-half substitute for Fellype Gabriel in a 2–2 away draw against Tupi in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. In his first match, three days he later scored his team’s only goal in a 2–1 defeat to Vila Nova.
Douglas Luiz continued as Cruz-Maltino’s starter until the end of the year, when his team achieved promotion to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. In the meantime, he also renewed his contract until 2019, on September 26, 2016.

In the 2023-24 season, he managed to register ten goals and ten assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.
On 30 June 2024, Douglas Luiz joined Serie A side Juventus for a fee of €50 million plus €1.5 million in add-ons, signing a five-year contract with the Italian club. As part of a separate transaction, Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea joined Aston Villa on permanent deals. The transfer was partly attributed to Aston Villa’s need to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which forced them to sell one of their key players. His debut for the club came in a 2–2 draw against Stade Brestois 29 as a 62nd-minute substitute. He registered an assist for Danilo’s 72nd-minute goal to make the score 2-1 in favor of Juventus.
