Real Madrid announces Lunin’s contract renewal until 2030
Ukrainian goalkeeper nominated for Yashin Award for best goalkeeper of the 2023/24 season
Real Madrid announced this Friday the renewal of goalkeeper Lunin’s contract until June 2030. Lunin arrived at Real Madrid in 2018, at the age of 19, and has been part of the team’s professional squad since 2020.
With the contract about to end and seeing the possibility of losing the athlete for free, the club from the Spanish capital extended the contract for another six years, also increasing the Ukrainian goalkeeper’s salary.
After the successive injuries that ruled out regular Thibaut Courtois for the 2023/24 season , Lunin took on the responsibility of defending the Merengue goal, being decisive in the campaign that led to the Madrid team’s Champions League, La Liga and Spanish Super Cup titles.
The semi-final return leg away to Manchester City was a prime example of this. Lunin was the hero of the night, making eight saves from open play and saving penalties from Bernardo Silva and Kovačić. Despite missing out on the grand final against Borussia Dortmund , his impressive performances throughout 2024/24 saw the Ukrainian nominated for the Yashin Award for best goalkeeper of the season.
