Mbemba suspended by Marseille and close to being sacked
Former FC Porto player missed two medical exams after returning from the international break and club is considering getting rid of the player for good
The saga between Marseille and Chancel Mbemba continues, but it seems to be very close to ending. After having forced him to train with the reserve team until the end of the season, and having fined him 10 days’ salary, after the central defender made an obscene gesture towards their president, Pablo Longoria, and Al Zarrak, the director, the club decided to suspend the 30-year-old player.
According to L’Équipe , the decision was taken on Saturday afternoon, after the defender returned from international matches for the Democratic Republic of Congo, having reported for work in the middle of the week, but missed two medical examinations, including an MRI, for which he had been summoned by the club’s medical department.
The reason lies in the bad atmosphere between the athlete and the medical team, who insisted on subjecting the former FC Porto player to surgery on his left knee, but he himself, despite some pain, refused to do so, stating that he is fit to play football.
Faced with this situation, the club suspended the player and is considering getting rid of him for good, although this would favor Mbemba , who is at the end of his contract with Marseille and wants a new challenge for his career as soon as possible.
