Pochettino reveals big ambition with the USA for the 2026 World Cup
New United States coach aims for world title in press presentation
Mauricio Pochettino, the new coach of the United States of America, has set a very ambitious goal for the 2026 World Cup , which the country will host together with Mexico and Canada.
“We have to believe we can win. Not just win a game, but win the World Cup. We want the players to go into the first day thinking big,” said the 52-year-old Argentine coach in his presentation to the press.
The United States’ highest finish in a modern World Cup was the quarterfinals in the 2002 edition, which took place in South Korea and Japan. In 1930, the country finished third in the inaugural tournament.
This is the second coach to reveal ambition for the competition, which will take place in two years. Before that, Dorival Júnior, Brazil’s coach, guaranteed that the Brazilian team will be in the final of the competition.
