Luis Enrique reacts to players’ strike threats: “Ligue 1 has four games less”
Spanish coach denies this possibility and recalls that the French championship has two fewer teams, which helps with the calendar
Many players and coaches have already commented on the possibility of going on strike, given the high number of games that will be played in 2024/25, including the reformatting of European competitions and the Club World Cup, and Luis Enrique gave his opinion on the matter this Friday.
The PSG coach denies the possibility of players going on strike, stating that clubs have to adapt to the calendar and recalling that Ligue 1 has four fewer games than the other four best leagues in the world.
“We are lucky that our league has two fewer teams, which means four fewer games. The French league is different. We have to adapt to the demands of the club. I don’t have much to say. We will have to adapt to the calendar,” he said at a press conference ahead of the trip to Reims this Saturday.
Only 72 hours will pass between the kick-off of the Champions League clash with Girona and the start of the French league game, but the Spaniard once again did not make a big deal out of the situation, although he would have preferred more rest time: «It’s the shortest we can have, with just two days between each game. The risk after the Champions League is there. We’re playing away against a good team, but we hope to be able to manage these circumstances.»
