Endrick’s shot angers Alavés in game against Real Madrid

Young striker receives yellow card in clash with Mouriño, but coach Luis García condemns player and referee’s actions: “It was a red card. We would have played with one more player at the end”

Endrick’s shot angers Alavés in game against Real Madrid

Endrick was left blank in Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Alavés , but he was still the talk of the town. A move involving the Brazilian angered the visiting team at the Santiago Bernabéu. The youngster kicked out at full-back Mouriño in the 37th minute of the second half and was only shown a yellow card (watch the move in the video above) . The opposing coach complained about the decision.

“We should have played against 10 in the last minutes because of the foul on Mouriño. Endrick intended to hit him and he did,” said Alavés coach Luis García.

– Everyone saw it was red. I don’t have to say why. I don’t know (because they didn’t review it on VAR), ask them – said the coach.

In the move, Mouriño pushes Endrick away in a dispute for space inside the area. The Brazilian reacts with a kick at the Alavés defender, who falls and complains of pain on the pitch. Referee Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz decided to punish the former Palmeiras player with only a yellow card. The move provoked an intense discussion between the two coaches of the game.

– That’s what I said to Carlo (Ancelotti), a person I admire deeply. A red card is a red card. Then, perhaps, we wouldn’t score and we wouldn’t recover, but that’s how I see things. I even think that some of the yellow cards shown to Real Madrid during the game weren’t so fair. But the issue of the sending off, for me, is not up for debate – said García, Alavés coach.

Endrick was booked in the 38th minute of the second half. Alavés scored their two goals shortly after: in the 39th and 41st minutes. The team complains that they could have played more than 10 minutes with an extra player and, as a result, had a better reaction against Real Madrid.

Asked about the incident, Carlo Ancelotti preferred not to comment.

– I can’t give my opinion, because I didn’t see it, not even the replay. We gave our opinion on the matter, but after the game there was no problem, no confrontation – said the Real Madrid coach.

Real Madrid have now reached 17 points in La Liga, one behind leaders Barcelona, who face Getafe on Wednesday. Alaves are eighth with 10 points.
