Jürgen Klopp is decorated in Germany
Former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool coach receives his country’s highest honour in ceremony with German president
Jürgen Klopp’s years at Liverpool have been full of achievements. The 57-year-old, who left the English club in May this year , has received his country’s highest honour. On Tuesday, Klopp was awarded the German Order of Merit in a ceremony with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Another 27 people were also awarded the German Order of Merit on Tuesday. Klopp was honored by the German president for his social and community activities and also for being a link in the relationship between the country and the United Kingdom.
– He always devoted a lot of time to his many fans and paid attention to the entire region in which he lived. In Liverpool, the most popular German in the United Kingdom contributed decisively to creating a positive image of our country. Jürgen Klopp has always been socially committed – said Steinmeier.
The ceremony took place at Bellevue Castle in Berlin, Germany’s capital. Klopp and the other 27 award recipients received the honor in recognition of their “positive image and commitment to the values of democracy.”
Jürgen Klopp left Liverpool after eight and a half years with 489 games, 298 wins and 109 losses. He is the fourth manager with the most games in charge of the team. He won eight titles, in all six possible competitions. At 57 years old, he will now rest and is not expected to take on a job in football for a while.
As a coach, Jürgen Klopp played 1078 official matches, with 596 wins, 283 draws and 244 defeats for Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.
