After City, now it’s the Premier League’s turn to claim victory in court

The case has no direct relation to the so-called Trial of the Century, where the ‘citizens’ are being tried for 115 financial offences

Manchester City and the Premier League claimed victory in a court battle over sponsorship deals on Monday.

Citizens , in a statement, said that the court “determined that the rules were structurally unfair”. The Premier League also defended, in an official statement , that Manchester City was “unsuccessful in most of its challenges”.

The Premier League said the court upheld the “legitimacy of the regulations” and said they were essential to making the profitability and sustainability rules effective. The court agreed that if a transaction was not at fair market value, it would distort competition within the league, the organisation said.

This case, it should be noted, has no direct relation to the so-called Trial of the Century , where the citizens are being tried for 115 financial offences, in an accusation also carried out by the Premier League .
