Bernardo Silva lent Mendy money when Man. City withheld wages

Former Citizens left-back is suing the club, demanding payment of 13.8 million euros

Benjamin Mendy , a left-back currently at Lorient , has revealed that Bernardo Silva , Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling loaned him money when Manchester City stopped paying his wages following the rape allegations he faced in 2021.

The French defender received £500,000 (around €598,000) per month when he represented the Citizens and, after being cleared of all charges against him, he is now demanding payment from his former club of £11.5 million (around €13.8 million) in unpaid wages from the current Premier League champions .

In addition to his fixed salary, Mendy was also entitled to a £900,000 bonus (around one million euros) for participating in 60% of the games, a bonus of one million pounds (€1.2m) if Guardiola’s team qualified for the Champions League and an annual payment of £1.2m (€1.4m) for image rights.

“I had difficulty paying child support, I felt terrible,” the footballer revealed in a court statement. ” Raheem Sterling , Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez lent me money to help me pay my legal expenses and support my family,” he added.

‘Peck’ at Manchester City

In the same statement, the 30-year-old full-back took a swipe at his former club, which is being investigated for financial misconduct: “I would have thought that Manchester City , more than any other club, would appreciate the lack of control and anger that a person or entity feels when accused of false allegations, given the Premier League allegations they face.”

“At no point have Manchester City apologised to me or even acknowledged that their actions nearly cost me everything. I believe it is only fair and just that they pay me the salary I would have earned had I not been falsely arrested for crimes I did not commit,” he concluded.
