Mendy reveals Man. City teammates also took part in drinking and sex parties
Frenchman complains about different treatment
The Benjamin Mendy case continues to make headlines . The left-back was accused of allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman and attempting to rape another, aged 29, at his home in Mottram St. Andrew (Cheshire, England), in October 2020 and 2018, respectively. The player was acquitted in court, but now has a legal dispute with Manchester City, who stopped paying him, claiming that he was unavailable to work due to the case.
The Frenchman is claiming around €13 million in unpaid wages, corresponding to the period between the day he was accused of rape and sexual assault, in August 2021, until the end of his contract, in June 2023.
The player opened a case in the Labor Court and revealed that other colleagues were at the parties he organized and even had relationships with women.
“A number of Manchester City first-team players, including the club captain, were present at parties I attended and organised. We all drank alcohol. We all had casual relationships with women. We all breached Covid-19 restrictions. That doesn’t excuse my behaviour, but I feel it is unfair for Manchester City to single me out in the way they did. The difference between me and the other Manchester City players is that I was falsely accused of rape and publicly humiliated,” Mendy said in a written statement, quoted by The Telegraph.
“I can’t help but feel that the club are trying to paint a narrative that I was acting recklessly and my alleged recklessness led to me being arrested for crimes I didn’t commit. I would just like to emphasise that at the time in question I was doing no differently to a number of Manchester City first team players,” he added.
