Javier Tebas, president of La Liga , has once again called for the 2025 Club World Cup not to take place

During his speech at the 2nd European Union Forum in Brussels, the Spanish leader addressed FIFA leader Gianni Infantino and stressed that the current competition only serves to “disorganise” the calendar of the remaining competitions.

“It is not necessary for the players, nor for the clubs, nor for FIFA, and the only thing it does is disorganise. President of FIFA, you know that you did not sell the audiovisual rights because of the budget you said. You know that you do not have the sponsorships that you had budgeted for and you know that the leagues and the players’ unions do not want the Club World Cup . Withdraw the Club World Cup now,” Tebas began by saying, adding that the competition will use the funds that support the clubs to harm them.

“Take it back and let’s sit down to negotiate. Dialogue and negotiation are different, negotiation ends with an agreement and dialogue ends with nothing. We have been talking to FIFA for years. I am sure we will reach an agreement. We also have the same goals that you have for the world of football. We are not selfish. This cannot be resolved with a Club World Cup ,” he added.

Finally, the president of La Liga referred to the rulings handed down last year by the Court of Justice of the European Union and their influence on the governance of football worldwide.

“I now appeal to FIFPRO. We must change the course of governance. Yesterday we began a path that must continue. Let us not fall into the trap that has always been set for us. If we do not fall, success will be ours. The league and the unions are the ones who negotiate the collective agreement in the national leagues. We must transfer this to the international world,” he concluded.

It should be remembered that La Liga will join forces with the Premier League and FIFPRO to report FIFA to the European Union due to the overload of the current competitive calendar.
