THE GAME
The match between Manchester City and Southampton was not very exciting in the first half. The home team made the most of their first chance of the game. In the fourth minute, Matheus Nunes crossed, Haaland got there, got away from the defender and, almost falling, shot to open the scoring. Shortly after, City had another opportunity. Matheus Nunes ran down the left side of the attack, pulled towards the middle and risked a shot, but the ball went straight out. Southampton started to have more possession of the ball, but could not reach the opposing goal. The only chance for Russell Martin’s team came in the 45th minute. On a counterattack, Archer went at speed and, face to face with the goalkeeper, hit the crossbar.
In the second half, Manchester City gave Southampton more of a scare. The first chance came less than a minute in, when Savinho carried the ball, passed it to Foden, who took a shot and the ball went close to the goal. Haaland then had three chances to extend the lead. One of them, in the sixth minute, Savinho crossed and the striker, face to face with the goalkeeper, shot wide. The visiting team did little to scare City and, despite the missed goals, Pep Guardiola’s team secured another victory.
