Liverpool beats Aston Villa and opens up a five-point lead at the top
Mohamed Salah shines with a goal and an assist as the Reds recorded their 15th win in 17 games this season
Summary
Liverpool took to the field this Saturday with the lead in the English Championship secured, due to the defeat of their rival Manchester City to Brighton a little earlier. And they left even more consolidated at the top of the Premier League table: with a great performance by Mohamed Salah, who scored a goal and set up Darwin Núñez, the Reds beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield and opened up a five-point lead over City
VICTORY IN COUNTERATTACKS
In the last year of his contract at Liverpool, Salah showed this Saturday that he is still a protagonist in his eighth season at the club. At 32 years old, he built the victory based on speed, in two perfect counterattacks. In the 19th minute, he was released by Van Dijk, was fouled at the edge of the area but still managed to pass to Uruguayan Darwin Núñez to open the scoring. The second goal, in the 38th minute of the second half, when Villa were pressing for an equalizer, was all the Egyptian’s: he took advantage of Diego Carlos’s poor tackle in the middle of the field, took the ball and shot until he entered the area and beat goalkeeper Emi Martínez.
