In the space of two days, the professional life of English referee David Coote has suffered a setback that could be irreversible. After being suspended by PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), responsible for English refereeing, following the release of a video in which he insulted Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool , the 42-year-old referee found himself embroiled in a new controversy.

The Sun newspaper released a video that was apparently filmed a day after he was the VAR for Spain v Germany , at the 2024 European Championship, and in which Coote appears to be sniffing a white powder that cannot be identified.

In addition to his homeland ban, Coote is also not named in UEFA’s squad for this week’s games and is likely to be sidelined while the investigations are ongoing, as has been the case in domestic competitions.
