UEFA announced this Thursday the opening of an investigation into English referee David Coote, after the release of a video in which the refereeing professional is caught smelling a white powder after being the VAR of Spain – Germany , at Euro 2024.

According to European football’s governing body, “a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to assess a potential breach of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by referee David Coote.”

“Additional information regarding this matter will be made available in due course,” the same note adds.

This was the most recent controversy involving the 42-year-old judge, who had already been suspended by PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), responsible for English refereeing, for a video in which he cursed Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.
