Amorim leaves a warning to players: “I hope to see different and better things”
Portuguese coach has already previewed the game against Everton, for the Premier League
After his first win in charge of Manchester United (3-2 against Bodo/Glimt), Ruben Amorim has now turned his focus to the Premier League match against Everton .
In a press conference, the Portuguese coach revealed his expectations and gave a little insight into the team’s preparations to face the Toffees: «I hope to win, it will be a different game, with a lot of fighting, long balls, second balls. They have a quality coach [Sean Dyche] who understands the league, who understands the opponent’s moment. We need to have the ball because we have little time to recover. We have to rotate the team. I hope for a win and I hope to see different things and see my team improve like we did from Ipswich to Bodo. I hope to see different things and better things.»
“I was a football player. Football players watching videos that are longer than 12 minutes? Forget it! Because they lose concentration. We have an indoor stadium, and instead of watching videos, we do it as if we were walking and running, it’s a way of doing it, and at the same time we show a video. They are very good players, they need to believe and we will show them individual things, team things and work. If you can’t run, you can jog and do the same exercise”, said Amorim.
The Portuguese coach also spoke about Diogo Dalot and the management that needs to be done: «Sometimes we will have to rotate him because it seems like he is always fresh, but that is not the case. He is not a machine. I think he plays better on the right and we will be able to put him on the right as well. He is a very good player, very powerful and can play on both sides. Nowadays, a player who can play on both sides… is perfect, because we can put him in different positions.»
“I expect the same [performance level] as we saw last year – a great player who can help the team and who is a real team player. You can feel that in every play, in the way he lives the game. That’s why he’s very important for us,” he concluded.
