AC Milan beats Napoli in the fourteenth round of the Serie A
Tijjani Reijnders was the star of the match; Paulo Fonseca is slowly approaching the top spots in the standings
Milan have now gone six games without losing in a row and passed the test presented by Empoli at San Siro with flying colours, winning 3-0 in a match in which Rafael Leão played for 84 minutes. Paulo Fonseca’s team (who, it should be noted, have a game in hand over their main rivals) are now seven points behind leaders Napoli .
The celebrations began early for the Rossoneri : after a lethal counterattack, Rafael Leão tried to score, shooting at an opponent, but the ball went to Álvaro Morata , who had no difficulty in opening the scoring (19′).
With a heavy fog falling over the pitch, Milan scored again. Reijnders appeared at the edge of the area to shoot first time into the goal (44′).
Roberto D’Aversa’s side had no answers for Milan’s attacking prowess, who could have scored more than two goals at half-time through strikes from Leão and Christian Pulisic . However, after the break, Empoli still gave goalkeeper Mike Maignan a scare when Youssef Maleh (54′) hit the crossbar.
Milan secured victory shortly after, with a perfect counter-attack started by Youssouf Fofana and finished by Reijnders (69′). Later, Leão left the field after a discreet but positive performance, in which four key passes stood out; the Portuguese was replaced by 16-year-old Francesco Camarda, one of the pearls of the club’s youth system.
Milan now has 23 points in the league and remains in 7th place; Empoli could drop from 10th place in this 14th round.
