“Insecurity? Mbappé conceded penalty to Bellingham out of altruism”
Ancelotti and the Frenchman’s action against Getafe, when he asked his teammate to convert a penalty
Kylian Mbappé was once again in the spotlight for Real Madrid at the weekend: he scored the 2-0 against Getafe, on matchday 15 of La Liga , having ‘left’ the ball for Jude Bellingham to score the first, from the penalty spot. It is worth remembering that the Frenchman had missed one against Liverpool , in the Champions League .
Carlo Ancelotti, who spoke to the press to preview the game against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames, assured that Mbappé’s decision during the game against Getafe, when he gave the penalty to Bellingham, was not due to a lack of confidence, but rather a gesture of altruism.
The coach also said that the choice of who takes the penalties is between the players, in this case, Bellingham and Mbappé.
“Tomorrow they will choose who will take the penalties. They will choose who is in the best position to take them, I don’t think that’s up for debate. Some people might see Mbappé’s penalty against Getafe as insecurity, but we see it as an altruistic act. For us, that’s very important and we value it a lot, because it means that an extraordinary talent, perhaps the greatest talent, is putting himself at the service of the team. It’s very important for the team and for the teammates. When there’s talent and altruism, it means we’re on the right track,” he said.
