Amorim and the position in the Premier League: “Everything changes with a result”
Manchester United are in 13th place after defeat to Arsenal
Ruben Amorim and Manchester United are looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League this Saturday, against Nuno Espírito Santo’s Nottingham Forest.
In the press conference ahead of the match, the Portuguese coach recalled the defeat against Arsenal (2-0) and addressed the Red Devils’ position: «I learn the same from victories as defeats because I focus on performance. We won 4-0 against Everton , but I saw a lot of things that were wrong. I saw the same against Arsenal . We need time to think about things. We don’t have much time to train and we have to prepare for the next opponent, but when I look at the team, I think we are improving in some aspects.»
“It’s a very competitive league, which can change with just one result. We have to get through this phase, so I feel the same way, because before the Arsenal game you were asking me about the top four and now we’re back in this position [13th]. We have to stay calm and keep doing the job we’re doing,” said the Portuguese.
Amorim also spoke about the main objective for this stage of the season and what he already knows about the players: «If we look at it today, we have three games in a week and that can change the image of the team, the perception of the team and the team in the table. It is possible to change a lot in a week. That’s how it is. We have to be consistent in the way we focus on the work in training. We don’t control the result, but we feel that we have to win three games to see a big difference in the table.»
«I trust each of the players. What I am understanding in training and in games is in which position each one plays best. What kind of situation is best for one player or another. These things I need to be close to them and watch the games from the bench, as you say, and not just on television. I am learning and we, as a team, are learning very quickly what they are capable of doing», he concluded.
For the game against the tricky trees, Amorim confirmed the absences of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof and the returns of Lisandro Martínez and Kobbie Mainoo .
