Real Madrid beats Atalanta and jumps up the Champions League table

Real Madrid visited Atalanta in Bergamo and won 3-2 on Tuesday in the sixth round of the Champions League. The two teams played one of the best matches of the competition so far. Mbappé, Vini Jr. and Bellingham scored the goals for the Spanish team, while De Ketelaere and Lookman scored for the Italians.

A major signing for Real Madrid this season, still under pressure to play well at the club, Kylian Mbappéu opened the scoring after just nine minutes, taking advantage of a pass from Brahim Díaz and a mistake by De Roon. In the first half’s injury time, Kolasinac was brought down by Tchouaméni in the area, and the referee awarded a penalty. De Ketelaere took the shot well and tied the match.
In the second half, Vini Jr. and Bellingham, the team’s two big names since last season, shone. In the 11th minute, the Brazilian was lucky to get a loose ball from the opposing defense and received a free kick to finish well with his left foot in the area. Three minutes later, Vinicius made a beautiful pass to Bellingham who cut past the defense and finished low, increasing the score. In the 20th minute, Lookman cut to his right foot and hit a beautiful shot to reduce Real’s advantage. Atalanta managed to create good chances until the end, when Retegui missed an easy goal, but could not prevent the defeat.
MBAPPÉ WORRIES
While Real Madrid is still dealing with a series of injuries, it has another concern on Tuesday. Striker Mbappé left the field in pain in the first half of the match against Atalanta. He had to be substituted in the 34th minute of the first half, making way for Rodrygo. The star player had been standing out in the match, with several chances to finish, but he showed signs of pain and had to be substituted before half-time. The star player left the field walking normally and was placed on the bench.

With the victory, Real Madrid now has nine points in the Champions League phase, reaching 18th place in the table. Atalanta drops to ninth place, with 11 points. In the next round, on January 21, the Italian team will face Sturm Graz. The following day, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will face RB Salzburg.
