CONCACAF invites Saudi Arabia to the 2025 and 2027 Gold Cup
Saudis succeed Qatar, which was in the competition in 2021 and 2023
In 2021 and 2023, CONCACAF’s invitee to the Gold Cup was Qatar – who were eventually eliminated by the USA in the semi-finals and then by Panama in the quarter-finals – and the next non-Central or North American country to participate in the competition will be Saudi Arabia .
The Saudis will not only participate in the next edition, in 2025, but also two years later, in 2027, with the first tournament to be held in the USA and Canada. This decision was confirmed this Thursday by the body that governs football in North and Central America.
This comes after the Saudi fund’s investments in CONCACAF in August this year, with Aramco, one of the world’s largest oil companies, majority-owned by the Saudi government, becoming the Confederation’s official energy partner.
The 2025 Gold Cup starts on June 14 and ends on July 6, with five countries already qualified, in addition to the hosts, the defending champions, Mexico, and, now, Saudi Arabia.
