Bruno Fernandes: “We have to recover what we had in the past”
The Portuguese international wants to take advantage of the good moment to return to winning ways at Old Trafford and once again create an atmosphere of “fear” for his opponents
After two good results away from home, first a 2-2 draw at Anfield against Liverpool , the sole Premier League leader, and then Arsenal ‘s elimination from the FA Cup on penalties at the Emirates, Manchester United are looking to continue that good run at Old Trafford.
Captain Bruno Fernandes was the voice of the team at the end of that game and again in an interview with Sky Sports : «For us it doesn’t matter who we play against. The most important thing is that we have to understand the club we play against. And obviously we know how big Arsenal are as a club and the rivalry between the two clubs, but for us it was just a question of getting through to the next round because we know we want to go all the way in this competition.»
The next game is against Southampton , bottom of the league, and Ruben Amorim’s team wants to break that record of four consecutive home defeats: «We can’t look at the names or the symbols. We can’t look at the table or see who’s ahead or behind us. We just need to look at ourselves and understand that we play for a giant club and that we have to set a bar for ourselves. Understand that this has to be the minimum and where we want to get to, to get the best out of everyone.»
“We have to get back to what we had in the past, when every team that came here was afraid that at any moment United could score a goal or hurt them. We have to get back to that together with the fans and with the patience that we have to have as a team to believe in the process. We need the fans to have the same patience and to believe in the players, because we can get results. They have seen it and we have to prove that we can do it every three days, that’s what we will do. We need them to support us to do that,” explained the Portuguese international, also pointing to winning a trophy, having won the FA Cup last year.
“This is very important for the country, for the club. We saw last season what it felt like to win and we want to try to repeat that. We know that to repeat that we need to beat the best teams. We did that yesterday and we hope to continue doing so,” he said.
