Amorim on Maguire: “He has become a leader again. I have great faith in him”
Portuguese coach praised the centre-back’s performance against Arsenal
With a mixed record at Old Trafford, it seems Harry Maguire is back on top since Ruben Amorim took charge of Manchester United .
The centre-back’s performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup did not go unnoticed by the Portuguese coach, who heaped praise on the England international: «I feel he has become a leader again. He feels more like an important player in the team. I have a lot of faith in Harry . I said that when we signed his new contract and he has a lot of faith in himself. He is doing a great job.»
“We have to praise Harry more than me. He was ill before the last game [ Arsenal ] and at the end he was ‘dead’. That’s what I want from all players,” said Amorim, who highlighted the player’s ability in the area: “You can also see that in this league it’s very important to be good at set pieces and, when we’re defending low, there are a lot of crosses. Arsenal made a lot of crosses with Harry and we controlled that area.”
“I think the system is very good for Harry . But as I said, the most important thing is Harry . He feels more like an important player in the team. And as a leader. I feel like he is a leader again. So it is very important for us,” he concluded.
