CITY ENTERS THE G-4

After a difficult end to the year, with nine defeats in 12 games, City seems to be back on track. With Sunday’s rout, Pep Guardiola’s team has now gone six games unbeaten and is now, at least provisionally, in the Premier League’s top four: it is in fourth place, with the same 38 points as Newcastle, in fifth. Chelsea, in sixth with 37, hosts Wolverhampton this Monday, at the end of the 22nd round, and could take fourth place from City.

THREE COMES, SIX ENDS

City were well on their way to victory in the first half, when they went 3-0 up, with Phil Foden scoring twice and the Belgians Jeremy Doku and Kevin de Bruyne combining to create a winning combination. The first goal came in the 26th minute, and the third in the 41st minute: a pass from Doku into the box, a cross from De Bruyne, control and a quick finish from Foden. In the 29th minute, Kovacic received the ball from Foden and scored the second from the edge of the box. In the second half, Doku scored the fourth in the third minute and gifted Haaland the fifth in the 11th minute. After the changes, City slowed down, but still scored the last goal, with a header from young James McAtee in the 23rd minute.
