Manuel Akanji is a Swiss professional footballer who plays as a central defender or left-back for Premier League club Manchester City and the Swiss national team. Akanji was born in Neftenbach, Switzerland on 19 July 1995. He began his career with FC Zürich, where he made his professional debut in 2014. In 2016, he transferred to Borussia Dortmund for €2.5 million. Akanji quickly became one of Dortmund’s main defenders. He was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for the 2019–20 season.
