Paulo Fonseca fined for criticizing refereeing after leaving Milan

Almost a month after the departure of the Milan technical command , now under Sérgio Conceição, Paulo Fonseca was fined for harsh criticism of the refereeing, after the defeat at Atalanta (1-2), on December 6, 2024.

At the time, the 51-year-old coach considered that the result was determined by referee Federico La Penna: «The first goal was a clear foul, there is no doubt about it. The referee decided the result of this game and it is not the first time. I have always respected the work of referees, but there are so many mistakes every weekend, always to the detriment of the same clubs. The way the referee officiated this game shows a lack of respect for Milan.»

Therefore, the Portuguese is obliged to pay 10 thousand euros to the Italian Football Federation, which announced this decision this Friday, while the former club also received a fine of half that amount.

Paulo Fonseca’s six-month stint at the Rossoneri was marked by constant criticism of the refereeing teams, especially in Serie A games .
