Walker recalls conversation with Guardiola: “It wasn’t easy”
Player leaves Manchester City after seven and a half seasons
Kyle Walker’s departure from Manchester City was somewhat sudden, considering the captaincy he enjoyed and the fact that he had played 18 games this season, most of them as a starter.
The player also said goodbye to Pep Guardiola, the coach who signed him from Tottenham for 53 million euros in 2017. As such, Walker’s farewell to the Citizens was never going to be simple.
On the day he was unveiled as a new Milan player (on loan), Walker recalled his final farewell to his former club: «It wasn’t an easy conversation. City were like family to me. But now I want to learn Italian, I still have a long way to go to achieve my goals.»
The 34-year-old right-back also commented on Milan’s current form and had words of appreciation for his new coach, Sérgio Conceição: «There is a lack of confidence linked to results. I think the new coach has a good idea. Discipline is necessary now. That is my role, which is not just related to what happens on the pitch. I have already won a lot and I come with that experience.»
