Ruben Amorim follows in Sir Alex Ferguson’s footsteps in Europe
The Portuguese coach won his first four European games as Manchester United coach, as did the Scot, a record
The three points in Romania against Steaua Bucharest (2-0) meant four games in the UEFA Europa League and four wins for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United , which gave them third place in this first edition of the league phase, only behind Lazio and Athletic Bilbao .
The only coach to achieve four wins in his first four European games was Sir Alex Ferguson, who ended up winning the competition he was in, the Cup Winners’ Cup, in 1990/91, undefeated… a good omen for the Portuguese.
However, the Scot has failed to secure five consecutive wins, so the 40-year-old will have the opportunity to break that record in the first leg of the round of 16 away from home, where he could face four teams: AZ Alkmaar , Midtjylland , Real Sociedad or Galatasaray .
It is also worth mentioning that Amorim is unbeatable in Europe this season, accumulating seven victories, three of them at Sporting and in the UEFA Champions League , and one draw, also for the Portuguese club and at PSV ‘s home (1-1).
