Aston Villa confirms interest in Félix: “Emery trusts in João’s talent”
Monchi, the Birmingham team’s sporting director, reveals that the Portuguese has already been considered in the last three or four transfer windows
Aston Villa are officially interested in João Félix. It’s not new, in fact. Monchi, the Birmingham team’s sporting director, admits that he would like to sign the Portuguese international from Chelsea , and even reveals that the forward has been considered in the last three or four transfer windows. Now he’s back in the plans, especially since Jhon Durán is leaving for Al Nassr , for a fee that could reach 85 million euros.
«The first thing we are going to do with the money we receive from the sale of Durán is to keep some of it, because of the fair play rules, which are very strict. Some of it will be for that. Then we have some names, and one of them is João. Emery likes him, because in the three transfer windows I have had here, four with this one, he has always been a name on the table, he was a small object of Emery’s desire. But it is complicated, and I don’t know if we will be able to get there», Monchi began by telling the Spanish newspaper AS.
“He is a player with a lot of quality and Emery has been able to bring back players who were given up on. He trusts in João’s talent. The first time he tried, Aston Villa were in the UEFA Conference League and he wanted the Champions League , so he went to Barcelona . Then there was the deal between Atlético and Chelsea because of Gallagher and we didn’t get in,” explained the Aston Villa sporting director.
Another player wanted by Aston Villa is Marco Asensio , from Paris Saint-Germain. “A similar case to João Félix ,” says Monchi. “There is also a strong love affair. Just before I arrived , Aston Villa tried to recruit him, they were close, but ended up at PSG . He is a player that Emery has always had his eye on, because he believes in his quality,” he explains.
Asked about Arsenal’s potential competition for the left-footed player, Monchi sees the London team as more interested in signing a striker, taking into account the injuries in the squad.
