Transfer Market: Edwards officially joins Burnley

English winger heads to the Championship on loan from the Lions

Edwards officially joins Burnley

Burnley confirmed the signing of Marcus Edwards on Monday . The English winger joins the Championship club on loan from Sporting until the end of the season. The Clarets have a €10 million purchase option, which becomes mandatory if they are promoted to the Premier League .

“It’s an incredible feeling. Burnley are like a Premier League club . I’m really happy to be here. I know Scott [Parker] from my time at Spurs . I know what he’s like. He’s ambitious, he’s driven. We had a good relationship back then, so when I heard he wanted me to come, that was enough for me. Knowing what he’s like and how he behaves and the fact that Burnley are such a big club in general, it made sense. The main thing now is to get promoted back to the Premier League. I came here to try and get into the team. Hopefully we can get over the line this season and hopefully the Burnley fans will enjoy watching me play as well,” Edwards told Clarets media .

It should be remembered that, at Sporting , Edwards was away from the group in recent days due to disciplinary issues. The winger, who has a contract with the green and whites until 2026, arrived at Alvalade in January 2022, from Vitória de Guimarães , in exchange for 7.75 million euros for 50 percent of the transfer. Later, when Pedro Porro was transferred to Tottenham , Sporting acquired another 15 percent.

This season, Edwards has scored three goals in 10 games for Sporting . He now heads to Burnley , who are third in the Championship.
