Memphis Depay reacts to four-month prison sentence
“I should have taken a taxi, but I didn’t,” said the Dutch player, caught driving drunk in Monaco in 2024

Corinthians player Memphis Depay has responded to his four-month suspended prison sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol during a holiday in Monaco in 2024, showing regret and apologizing.
“I would like to come here and apologize. Last summer, during my vacation in Monaco, I made a mistake and decided to drive home after having drinks in a restaurant. I should have taken a taxi instead, but I didn’t, so I want to apologize and take full responsibility for my actions. 2024 has been a year of lessons and I will definitely learn something from this one,” he wrote on social media.
The incident was reported on August 6 last year: the 30-year-old Dutchman was driving his Rolls-Royce in the Principality when he was stopped by the police, with a blood alcohol level of more than 2g. According to Globo Esporte, the forward was fined 9,000 euros and banned from driving in Monaco for two years.
