Messi admits he didn’t adapt to PSG and reveals: “I had to leave Barcelona”

In 2021, Lionel Messi made one of the most surprising transfers in football history when, after 21 years at Barcelona , he left the Blaugrana to join PSG . He would stay in France for two years before moving to MLS and Inter Miami .

Three and a half years after that move, the Argentine star, in an interview with Apple TV , recalled those years, from leaving Camp Nou to arriving in the United States.

«Coming to play for Inter Miami was an opportunity and the way things evolved during my last years in Paris, although it was a decision I had to make at the time, because I had to leave Barcelona , I went through two years that I didn’t like», he confessed, admitting that he found it difficult to adapt to the Parisian club.

“I wasn’t happy with the day-to-day, with the training sessions and the games. I had a hard time adapting to all that. I was tempted to come to Inter [Miami] because it’s a club that’s growing, having only been around for a few years. I liked the idea of coming and helping to make the club bigger. And I knew it was a city where my family could be happy. I don’t regret anything, quite the opposite,” he added.

Regarding the future, Messi said that, at the moment, he is not thinking long term and that he is focused on day-to-day life: “I feel very good, I enjoy where I am, what I do, day-to-day life, training, games, my friends, my family, I enjoy when I go to Argentina. I enjoy it much more than when I was young, I enjoy details that I didn’t give importance to before. I have never thought about the future, I have always lived day-to-day. I don’t anticipate.”
