Amorim: “The goal is to win the Premier League”
Portuguese coach’s reaction to elimination against Fulham in the FA Cup

Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham on penalties and, after the match, Ruben Amorim made no secret of his ambition. Despite the loss in the competition, the coach reinforced the long-term goal of the project: to win the Premier League .
«We managed to score in the second half after conceding a goal just before half-time. We pressed higher but managed to score. We had the best chances of the game. In the end, penalties can go either way and today was not our day. I try to relax the players before the penalties. I know it is a technical thing, but they have to be relaxed and confident. It is important to say that the substitutions gave us the opportunity to win the game», analysed Amorim , who refers to improvements in the team. «I think we are better at first balls than at second balls. I also sometimes think about the quality of the players. Bruno Fernandes , Casemiro and Zirkzee are improving a lot», he added.
Despite yet another setback this season, Amorim is still hopeful for the future. “The goal is to win the Premier League . I know we are losing games but the goal is to win the Premier League again. I don’t know how long it will take. We have a goal and we will keep going, whatever happens. It is impossible to know but we are starting to understand the players and the league. We will see in the future”, explained the coach. For now, the focus is on the UEFA Europa League , a competition in which United play on Thursday, in the round of 16, against Real Sociedad . “It is very important to recover the players. They are tired, we have three days until the game and then we come back here to play Arsenal ” , he concluded.
