Lyon finds “unusual speed” in severe punishment of Paulo Fonseca strange
In three days, Ligue 1’s disciplinary committee judged the case and punished the Portuguese player for 9 months

Paulo Fonseca’s headbutt on Benoît Millot, referee of Lyon – Brest , last Sunday, is on the agenda of football in France, especially after, this Wednesday, the disciplinary committee announced the very heavy punishment for the Portuguese coach, who will be banned from acting, officially, until November 30th.
In a statement, Lyon has already reacted and guaranteed that it will consider an appeal.
«Olympique Lyonnais takes note of the extreme severity of the punishment, unprecedented, and the unusual speed of the disciplinary committee in relation to Paulo Fonseca. The club regrets that its coach was not judged solely on his actions – an emotional reaction, without the intention of physically attacking the referee. In light of a punishment that appears to be imposed in a context that is detrimental to French refereeing, Lyon has already announced that it is studying all possible appeal solutions. More than ever, the club is united and focused on its sporting goals”, reads the official note.
