Coach dad

As per Citifmonline, her mother had three children before meeting her father. At first, Thomas and his brother, Frank, spent quality time with their father, who loved football and coached his own local Ghanaian team in the town of Odumase Krobo.
Having a football-loving coach for a father, it’s only natural that a love of the game is instilled in little Thomas and his brother, Frances. Both were key figures on his father’s local team.
For the two brothers, the ambition to go professional was not just a passing fancy. At first, football was seen as a golden tree and a hope of solace in ending poverty in the Partey family.
Thomas struggled to the point where he compromised his education towards football training and the pursuit of his football dreams. Thomas started playing football at his father’s training base (Krobo) until he was 10 years old before moving to Ashaiman. While playing for the team, his father gave him the nickname “Senegal”. That’s because his son reminded him of a friend with the same name.

As Thomas continued to develop, he began to dream of traveling to Europe in an attempt to earn money to care for his family. Such desperation made Thomas look for sponsors and participate in football trials.
Thomas Partey’s parents had several failed attempts to raise money to prepare for their son’s trip to Europe should an opportunity arise. It got to the point where his father had to make the decision to sell his property.

Both Thomas and the agent agreed that he would go to Spain for a trial. However, no Spanish selection was discussed as it was a surprise package. Thomas’ agent processed all his papers while he had nothing to do but train, eat, sleep and wait for that blessed day when he would travel.

The trip to spain

On that blessed day, Thomas and his agent got into a car and drove to Accra, the capital of Ghana, where they handed him his passport. Surprisingly, he was informed that he would be traveling that day without his father or any member of his family knowing. According to Thomas;

“MY FATHER DIDN’T KNOW, NO ONE IN MY FAMILY KNEW ANYTHING, NOT EVEN THAT I WAS GOING ON THAT DAY, BECAUSE IF I SAID IT WOULD CAUSE A LOT OF PANIC.”
