Everton recovers part of the lost points and changes the Premier League table

The Premier League confirmed, in an official statement, that it reduced Everton’s penalty from 10 to 6 points for violating the competition’s ‘Financial Fair Play’, according to the conclusions of an independent appeals committee.
The 10-point penalty for Everton, which took the Toffees from the middle of the Premier League to the relegation zone, has been corrected. On Monday afternoon, the Premier League reported that, in response to the appeal presented by the club after an independent commission punished it for violating the competition’s financial rules in the year corresponding to the 2021-22 season, a commission decided that the sanction, after all, it would be 6 points.

The update is already in the Premier League table, where the team now appears in 15th, ahead of Nottingham Forest and Brentford. They had 21 points and, with this correction, they have 25, that is, one more than the ‘tricky trees’ and the same number as the ‘bees’ – with the goal difference in their favor -, expanding their advantage over relegation positions to 5 points. So far, the main candidates to fall to the Championship are Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United.

The Goodison Park offices did not complain that there were irregularities in their accounts, which they acknowledged, but rather that the punishment for this was not fair. To argue, they presented nine reasons. They were met in two of them, reducing the subtraction in their score, although maintaining a condition that would be as if two victories were not counted, but two defeats were applied.

The first penalty was decided by an independent commission and its review was decided by an independent appeals committee. The panel that left the penalty at 6 points is led by judge Sir Gary Hickinbottom, with the support of experts Daniel Alexander and Katherine Apps. They were selected by the management of an equally independent panel that the Premier League has for these situations
