Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong dismissed recent speculation about his future at the club during a press conference ahead of their Champions League match against Napoli .
De Jong , who has a contract until 2026, is in negotiations with Barcelona for a possible renewal until 2029, however, the discussions come up against financial issues.
In response to journalists’ questions, the player expressed his irritation with the speculations circulating in the press in recent months.
“I am irritated and revolted by what the press in general writes. Many things come out that are lies. Some of you say things that are not true and you have no shame,” De Jong said.
They invented a story
He also denied rumors about his salary demands, clarifying that the published figures are very far from reality.
“They’re talking a lot about my contract, my salary, and there’s a lot of lies and smoke. They say I’m charging €40 million. It’s far from what I actually charge. They invented a story”, highlighted the player.
De Jong, who arrived at Barcelona in July 2019, has been a fundamental part of the team, especially during Xavi Hernández’s tenure . Regarding rumors of a possible sale, the midfielder denied it and expressed his hope of remaining at the club for many years.
“I hope not (the club thinks about selling me). I have the feeling they are making things up. I hope it can continue for many years”, said the player.
Barcelona is preparing to face Napoli this Wednesday (21) in the first match of the round of 16 of the Champions League , in Naples, Italy.
