Guardiola comments on duel with Real Madrid
After the draw for the Champions League quarter-finals, Guardiola commented on the clash against Real Madrid for the third year in a row
A few hours after the Champions League quarter-final draw , Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola commented on the result. The commander regretted the third consecutive meeting with Real Madrid , calling the club the “king of the competition”, as it is the biggest winner in isolation, with 14 titles.
“ We have no other option. It seems like a bit of tradition, three years in a row playing against the kings of the competition, because they have won 14 Champions Leagues. Hopefully we arrive at a good time. You cannot control the draw. Normally, when they say that the draw is easy, it is because they are belittling the opponent. There’s no need to say what Real Madrid are in this tournament. We have to play two good games to get through ,” said the Spaniard at a press conference.
The other two duels ended with one classification for each side, but both took place in the semifinals, unlike the current edition. Coincidentally, whoever qualified earlier ended up as the tournament champion, with Madrid in 2022 and City the following year, beating Liverpool and Inter Milan , respectively.
This year, the first clash is scheduled for April 9th or 10th, with the date to be confirmed by UEFA. The first leg will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu, while the return leg will take place at the Etihad Stadium between the 16th and 17th of the same month, to discover one of the four best on the continent.
