Two game suspension to complain
We already know about Xavi’s suspension following his expulsion during Atlético-Barcelona for complaining to the referee. The blue-gray coach will miss the next two games, but will be present in the ‘Clássico’. He won’t be against Las Palmas or Cádiz, but he will be able to take advantage of the big game against Real Madrid.
José María Sánchez Martínez expelled Xavi from the clash between Atlético and Barcelona, for addressing him “in a loud voice” and for “lack of consideration” towards his figure, as recorded in the minutes.
The Committee announced the sanction that finally fell on the coach. Although within the ‘culé’ group there was fear that he would receive a three-game suspension for repeat offence, the punishment ended up being only two games.
Therefore, Xavi will not be able to be on the bench in FC Barcelona’s next LaLiga matches, against Las Palmas and Cádiz. In the game against PSG, which takes place in the Champions League, the coach may be present, as the suspension only affects the domestic tournament.
The coach will take his place again, only in the match against Real Madrid, which corresponds to the 32nd round, which will be played on April 21, at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The Committee explains that Xavi will have to serve “a two-game suspension for protesting against the referee”, a punishment that also includes an “additional fine of 700 euros for the club and 600 for the offender”.
However, Barça will not sit idly by with this sanction. According to ‘Esports COPE’, the club intends to present an appeal to the Appeal Committee.
