Osimhen won the Golden Boot award at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup , won by Nigeria. He made his senior international debut in June 2017 and played at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations . He is currently the fourth highest scorer of all time for the Nigerian national team.
He placed 8th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or awards held in Paris, France and became the first Nigerian to be in the top ten of the Ballon d’Or . On 11 December 2023, Osimhen was awarded the African Men’s Player of the Year at the 2023 CAF awards night, the first Nigerian since Kanu Nnamkwo in 1999.
