Arsenal could field 16-year-old goalkeeper with Raya
First-choice goalkeeper has fitness issues and Brazilian reserve has already played for Bournemouth in the English League Cup. Youngster Jack Porter is most likely to take charge of the goal against Bolton
Arsenal may have to field 16-year-old goalkeeper Jack Porter for Wednesday’s League Cup third-round tie against Bolton Wanderers after David Raya suffered a knee injury following the derby against Manchester City at the weekend. The goalkeeper was seen limping and wearing a bandage on his knee after the match
According to the British newspaper The Mail , the injury to the first-choice goalkeeper is not serious, but he will probably be spared from the midweek match. The immediate backup is Brazilian Neto, who was signed on the last day of the transfer window.
However, the former Barcelona and Juventus man is unable to play for Arsenal in the knockout stages, having only played one game for his former club Bournemouth this season. As the third option, 18-year-old Tommy Setford, who is also injured, would make way for teenager Porter.
Whoever wins between Arsenal and Bolton will advance to the round of 16 of the English League Cup. Next Saturday, the Gunners will return to action against Leicester in the sixth round of the Premier League. In the English Championship, Mikel Arteta’s team is in fourth place with 11 points.
