Arsenal draw with Atalanta in Champions League opener

Like a cat!

Arsenal have a lot to thank for their goalkeeper David Raya (understand better below), hero in the draw with Atalanta, this Thursday, in the first round of the Champions League 2024/25 . The runner-up of the Premier League last season managed to draw 0-0 with the current champion of the Europa League, at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia stadium, in Bergamo, Italy. A match that was not the most exciting, it must be said.

It even picked up a Wi-Fi signal!

The impressive move – and probably a historic one in the Champions League – happened six minutes into the second half. Midfielder Ederson was brought down by defensive midfielder Partey inside the box. VAR confirmed the penalty, and forward Retegui went to take it. Goalkeeper Raya not only saved the shot but also the downward header by the Atalanta player, which followed. Show-stopping reaction time!

Upcoming games

Arsenal will face a tough opponent in the second round of the Champions League: Paris Saint-Germain. The game will be at the Emirates Stadium on October 1st at 4pm (Brasília time). Atalanta will play again in the tournament on October 2nd, against Shakhtar Donetsk, away from home. Check out the full table for the 2024/25 Champions League.
