Bayern’s rout makes Champions League history
The Bavarians’ rout of Dinamo Zagreb has taken them straight into second place in the history of the competition’s most-scoring games
Bayern showed that they are not messing around in this edition of the Champions League and, in the first game, they made sure to thrash Dinamo Zagreb , with a heavy score of 9-2. The victory, or rather, the thrashing, went straight into the history of the Champions League as one of the games with the most goals in the competition.
However, incredibly, the 11 goals in Tuesday’s match in Munich were not enough to dethrone what is currently the highest-scoring game in Champions League history . Interestingly, the record holder is Bayern ‘s great rival , Dortmund .
On 22 November 2016, the Black and Yellows hosted Legia Warsaw . The game, which was part of the group stage at the time, was already showing an impressive 5-2 on the scoreboard… after 32 minutes! The pace slowed down in the second half, but that didn’t stop both Dortmund and Legia from scoring even more goals. After the final whistle, the screens at Signal Iduna Park showed an impressive 8-4 (12 goals) as the final score.
