Former Valencia president targets in Vinícius Jr.
Paco Roig accused the Brazilian player of lying about the racism he suffered at Mestalla and called Real Madrid the “Immigrant Real”
Paco Roig, former president of Valencia between 1994 and 1997, did not hold back with his words and harshly criticized Vinícius Jr. and Real Madrid .
In an interview with Relevo , the former Che leader was asked about the differences between verbal violence and racism in the 90s and today, and took the opportunity to define the Brazilian player as “a person of s…” and to use xenophobic terms, when characterizing Real Madrid as “Real Immigrant.”
«Before, there weren’t such problems or I didn’t understand them. Romário was half black and he didn’t have any problems. The thing is, in Madrid, there’s a team, which is… I call it Real Imigrante. In Madrid, there are eight black people in the starting eleven, two white foreigners and a Spaniard, Carvajal , and then Vinícius shows up here … do you know what he came here [Mestalla] to do?», Roig began by saying, adding that the Merengues ‘ number 7 lied when he said he was the target of racism in the match against Valencia in the 2022/23 season.
“I was at the stadium that day with my grandson and my son and I asked my grandson: ‘Alfonsito, what are they saying?’ He said: ‘They’re calling you an idiot.’ I thought they were calling him a monkey, but they weren’t. Then I asked my son: ‘Alfonso: what are they saying?’ Same thing. Idiot. Then the guy [ Vinícius Jr.] responds to the provocation and says ‘let’s go for the second leg’ and gets a red card. What’s this? The Valencia fans couldn’t get into the stadium for two or three games and they forgive him for being sent off. He may be a great player, which I think he is, but he’s a s–t person. He’s always talking to the referee. I’ve been to South America 20 or 30 times and nothing has ever happened to me. I can’t go there and say I’m a conqueror. This guy can’t say that. But who does he think he is?», he concluded.
It should be remembered that Vinícius Júnior has been an active voice in the fight against racism in football and, recently, he suggested that, due to the cases that have already occurred in Spanish football, the 2030 World Cup should change hosts.
