Galatasaray wins and overtakes Mourinho at the top
3-1 win over Gaziantep; Istanbul derby at Fenerbahçe on Saturday
Galatasaray are the new leaders of the Turkish League, after beating Gaziantep at home, in a game postponed from the 3rd round .
Okan Buruk’s team started the match strongly and opened the scoring before the first quarter of an hour had passed. In the 11th minute, Baris Yilmaz , on the half-turn, shot into the back of the net, after a good collective play.
Shortly afterwards, in the 26th minute, Michy Batshuayi served a backheel for Yunus Akgun to finish just inside the area.
In the second half, Galatasaray reached 3-0 in the 75th minute, scored by Michy Batshuayi from close range, after a pass from Baris Yilmaz .
In the final stretch of the match, the visiting team reduced the gap on the scoreboard in the 81st minute, through Furkan Soyalp.
After five rounds, Galatasaray moved to the top of the standings with 15 points, two more than Fenerbahçe , led by Portuguese coach José Mourinho. Besiktas , with Rafa , João Mário and Gedson Fernandes , all of whom are former Benfica players, are in fourth place with 10 points, although they have played a game less.
This Saturday, at 6 pm, Fenerbahçe hosts its great rival Galatasaray , current Turkish champion.
