Grealish and Rice plot ex-team on Angel Gomes’ debut and Georgia thrashes Czechia
England beat Ireland with two goals from two players who represented the Irish youth team. Georgians met the Czechs again after Euro 2024 and continue to make history
England kicked off the post-Southgate era in the best possible way, with a victory in Ireland (0-2), for the first round of the Nations League , in a game in which Angel Gomes , Portuguese-English and ex- Boavista , made his debut for the English main team, coming on in the 78th minute.
Interestingly, both goals were scored by two players who had previously represented the Irish youth teams: Declan Rice opened the scoring in the 11th minute, and less than 15 minutes later he set up Jack Grealish . The Arsenal player held back in his celebrations, having made his debut for the first team at this very stadium, the Aviva, in Dublin, in a friendly, while the Manchester City player celebrated effusively, to the whistles of the opposing fans.
Georgia met Czechia again this Saturday, after having drawn 1-1 at Euro 2024 and having made history by beating Portugal and, consequently, qualifying for the round of 16 in their debut in the final stages of a major competition.
The Georgians continued to surprise and hosted and thrashed the Czechs 4-1, with Kvaratskhelia scoring the first, through a penalty, in the 33rd minute. In the second half, he assisted Chakvetadze , in the 53rd minute, and Mikautadze , one of the best scorers in the European Championship, increased the advantage not even ten minutes later, with Kochorashvili scoring the fourth, in the 66th minute.
The visitors still reduced the deficit 10 minutes from the end of regular time, through Kalvach , but they didn’t have time to react.
